Mac Appeal

This is the largest appeal SOS Animals UK has ever done for a single dog, but if you take a look at this adorable little fighter in action you will understand why we just cannot give up on him:

Mac was found literally crawling along the road having sustained terrible injuries, no doubt through human abuse, he has been kicked and kicked hard. He is currently in care in Spain. However, he needs an MRI scan. And quick. At the vets he was put on a make-shift wheelchair and instantly scooted around to the pigs ears and started loading up the chair with supplies.

When Mac had been seen by the vet, the vet said he was suffering from paralysis of the back legs. From his x-rays we can see an injury on the 3rd and 4th lumbar vertebra, probably a fracture within the body of the vertebra. It´s dificult to see it on a basic x-ray, so we need a better one to be sure of the diagnosis.

Mac has reflex on the back legs and he is able to control his bowels, but he has no sensitivity. This meens that he is not able to feel pain on the back which can be a problem, because he usually lays on his side and can develop ulcers on this area.

We think the spinal cord is damaged as well, but again we can´t tell without a better x-ray. So the best thing we can do to properly evaluate the spine and spinal code is an MRI scan. The problem is the cost is €400

The worse and most likely prognosis is that the spinal cord is damaged. This means he will not be able to use his back legs. If the spinal cord is not damaged he can have surgery to mend the fracture. This too is expensive at around €800. Sometimes the spine can heal itself, but I cant garantee it.

If you have watched the video of little Mac scooting around on his make-shift wheelchair you will appreciate that even with the worse prognosis he deserves a chance to enjoy life.

So please, please, if you are at all able donate to help give this special little man a chance.
